A man has been beaten and hacked to death in Phulbari’s Baniapara area of Bogura district.

The incident occurred around 10:00 pm on Sunday, said Almas Ali, officer-in-charge of the Phulbari Police Outpost.

Police said that Robin, the victim, had an altercation with locals over plucking custard apples from a tree inside a graveyard in Baniapara. Around four to five men took him to a jungle near the graveyard at night and beat him with hockey sticks. They also hacked at him with sharp weapons and left him there while critically injured.

Locals rescued Robin and took him to the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead, reports bdnews24.com.

Once the incident was reported, police went to the scene and recovered broken parts of three hockey sticks and a Chinese axe.

Almas said that Robin was involved in criminal activities, according to an initial investigation. He was named in four cases, including accusations of attempted robbery, fighting, and violence against women filed at Sadar Police Station.

Additional Police Superintendent Mostafa Manjur of Bogura Sadar Circle said some people involved in the killing had been identified. Multiple teams of police were working to arrest them, he said.
