A man has died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) after being shot by unidentified assailants in Raozan.
The victim, identified only as Nasir, passed away on Sunday night while receiving treatment at the medical facility, according to Sub-Inspector Nure Alam Ashek of the CMCH Police Outpost.
The officer said the victim was admitted to Ward No. 2 via the emergency department before succumbing to his injuries.
The death marks the second fatal shooting in Raozan within a day, according to a bdnews24.com report.
Attackers opened fire on Nasir in South Shamsherpara of Kadalpur Union’s Ward No. 6 on Sunday night.
Raozan Police chief Sajedul Islam said that the assailants fired several rounds at the victim.
Police have since recovered three empty shell casings from the crime scene.
Officer Sajedul described Nasir as a listed criminal on police records, noting that he was an accused in six different cases, which include murder.
Territorial and criminal activities have spiked in Raozan following the change in government on August 5, 2024.
Media reports suggest at least 22 killings have occurred in the Upazila over the last 18 months, 16 of which were reportedly politically motivated.
Earlier on Sunday, a man named Kawsar Zaman Bablu was shot dead in Jungle Raozan, a hilly woodland section in the north of the Upazila, during the early hours of the morning.
