A man has died in a clash between two groups involved in a power struggle in Narayanganj’s Fatullah. His friend is also undergoing treatment in a hospital and is in critical condition.

The incident took place in the Panchabati area around 4:30 am on Thursday, Fatullah Model Police Station chief (OC) Abdul Mannan said.

The victim, 38-year-old Riaz Uddin Babu, hails from the Shantinagar Bazar area of Fatullah. His friend Md Liton, 38, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), reports bdnews24.com.

Two local groups have been vying for dominance in the area, taking control of a few shops beside the road in Panchabati, OC Mannan said. This led to a clash between the two groups early in the morning on Thursday.

At that time, Riaz and Liton were seriously injured by sharp weapons from the opposing group, and their associates brought them to the 300-Bed Hospital in Narayanganj.

There, doctors declared Riaz dead and sent Liton to DMCH for advanced treatment.

The OC also said, "The family of the victim has named some locals involved in the murder. Riaz himself was also named in a case on charges of robbery. He was known locally as 'Killer Babu'."

"Police are investigating the matter. Those involved in the murder will be brought to justice.”

However, no case had been filed at the police station over the incident as of 11:00 am on Wednesday.
