A man was allegedly beaten to death by his elder brother over a land dispute in Bishwambarpur upazila of Sunamganj District on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Mujibur Rahman (48), a resident of Purbo Chargao village in the upazila.
Quoting locals, police said Mujibur had a long-standing dispute with his elder brother, Faizur Rahman (70), over a piece of land.
On Wednesday night, when Mujibur was returning home from the mosque, Faizur allegedly struck him on the head from behind with a bamboo stick. When Mujibur fell on the road, Faizur continued to beat him, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rushed Mujibur to the Bishwamvarpur Upazila Health Complex, where he died in the early hours of Thursday while undergoing treatment.
Police arrested Faizur Rahman, said Mokhlesur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bishwamvarpur Police Station.
Mujibur’s body has been sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
