A 36-year-old man was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants at Maizpara in the Halishahar area of Chattogram city on Friday night.
The victim was identified as Mohammad Akbar, a resident of Halishahar and father of three children, UNB reports.
Quoting locals, Zahid Kabir, officer-in-charge of Halishahar Police Station, said a group of assailants riding motorcycles called Akbar out of his house around 9:30 pm and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Akbar’s sister, Jotsna Begum, alleged that her brother had long been running a cooperative association in the area and was involved in financial transactions. Some local criminals had been demanding extortion money from him, and as he refused to pay, they killed him, she claimed.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the CMCH morgue for autopsy.
“We are investigating the motive behind the murder. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved,” the OC added.
