Miscreants attack, kill two Jubo League activists in Chattogram

Two Jubo League activists, who were brothers, were killed in an attack in Choto Daroga Hat area of Chattogram’s Sitakundu upazila on Monday night.

The deceased were identified as Ramjan Ali Khokon, 34, and Sijol Ali, 30, sons of late Nurul Afsar of Baroyardhala union. They were activists of the ruling Awami League's youth front.

A gang of miscreants numbering 30-40 attacked the duo around 7:30 pm while they were returning home after attending a programme marking the National Mourning Day at Kutumbobari Community Centre in the area, arranged by the local unit of Awami League, said Sub-inspector Jahirul Islam Bhuiyan of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost.

The gang hacked them indiscriminately, leaving the duo critically injured, said the SI quoting witnesses.

The injured were rushed to CMCH where Ramjan succumbed to his injuries around 9:30 pm and Ramjan around 11:30 pm, UNB reported.

Md Iftekhar Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sitakundu Police Station, said that they might have been killed over political rivalry.

Ramjan was a listed criminal and accused in six cases including attack, murder and robbery, the OC added.
