A middle-aged woman, who is mother to a local leader of the student front of the ousted Awami League, has been “hacked to death” in her home in Boda Upazila of Panchagarh.
The incident occurred around 8:30 pm on Thursday in the Kaliaganj area of Kajoldighi Kaliaganj Union, said Boda Police Station chief Md Azim Uddin.
The deceased, 45-year-old Arina Begum was the wife of Abul Kalam Azad.
Their elder son Wahiduzzaman Amit is the president of the Kajaldighi Kaliaganj Union Chhatra League.
According to locals, Arina was offering her Esha prayers at home at night. At that time, someone entered the house and hacked her to death with a sharp weapon.
Returning home from the market at night, Azad found his wife lying in a pool of blood on the ground. Hearing his cries, the nearby people rushed over, bdnews24.com reports.
Police officer Azim Uddin said, "The body was recovered on Friday and a preliminary examination was conducted. Multiple sharp weapon wounds were found on her head. The body has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem."
Police say the family were preparing to bring charges.
