Police have arrested a man from Gaibandha for his alleged involvement in the recent attack on doctors and vandalism at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) identified the arrestee as Sanjay Paul without giving other information about him.
Sanjay Paul was detained from the bus terminal area in Gaibandha district town in the early hours of Monday.
On Saturday, three doctors of the NeuroSurgery department at DMCH were assaulted. Following the attack, doctors issued an ultimatum, demanding the arrest of those responsible within 24 hours.
Four people involved in the attack were detained and handed over to army personnel on Saturday night.
Simultaneously, a patient who had swallowed poison was declared dead by physicians in the emergency department. In response, the patient’s relatives vandalised the emergency room.
On Sunday, medical services at both private and public hospitals across the country, including DMCH, were halted as doctors went on a strike protesting the attack on physicians.
After a meeting with Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum on Sunday, the protesting physicians postponed their strike for 24 hours till 8 pm on Monday.
