In separate drives, police and members of Coast Guard arrested 26 fishermen and seized a total of 830,000 metres of banned current nets and six boats from Meghna river on Thursday night.
The team, in a special drive, arrested the fishermen and seized 30,000 metres of current net along with six fishing boats from Rajapur and Tolatuli points of the river.
Later, a mobile court fined the fishermen with a total of Tk 100,000, reports UNB.
In another drive, members of Coast Guard seized 800,000 metres of banned current nets worth Tk 280 million from Sadar upazila on Friday morning.
Being tipped-off, a team of coast guard conducted the drive in the two houses of Sabur Member and Lahari at Hilsha Junction area in the upazila and seized the banned item.
Later, the seized current nets were burnt.
