Four youths were arrested on Monday for vandalising an idol of Hindu goddess Saraswati at Tingao village of Bandar Upazila in Narayanganj.
The arrestees have been identifies as Sujon, 22, son of Abdul Karim Mia; Shafikul Islam, 25, son of Nur Mohammad; Hridoy, 22, son of Shahid Mia; and Shahin, 23, son of Ayub Mia.
Bandar Police Station's Officer-in-charge Rafikul Islam said the accused had an argument with some Hindu youths during Saraswati Puja at Madhu Sudhan Biswas's house on Sunday evening.
They returned later that night and vandalised the idol around 1am. Locals caught them in the act and handed over to police.
Biswas has filed a case with Bandar police, reports UNB.
Saraswati Puja, the worshiping the goddess of knowledge, wisdom and culture, is one of the main religious festivals of the Hindu community. It was celebrated across the country on Sunday.
