The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a young man in Jhenaidah after conducting a five-hour raid in a house suspected to be a hideout for militants.

The arrestee Akhtaruzzaman Sagar, 25, is son of Sharafat Mondol and hails from Kaluhati village in Ganna union. He has been involved in the activities of the new faction of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh or JMB, claimed the RAB officials.

Being informed of the possible existence of the militants, the RAB members raided a house owned by Sharafat in Kaluhati village at around 4:00am on Wednesday, said RAB-6 chief Wing Commander Hasan Emon Al Rajib.

Sagar was detained by the elite force at around 9:00am without any shootout.

“We have information about Sagar’s links to the new faction of JMB. We recovered a toy-gun and some ‘jihadi’ booklets in the house. We’ll interrogate him,” said Rajib.

Sagar has been suffering from mental illness for long, his father told reporters. He had returned home recently after receiving treatment in the Pabna Mental Hospital, according to bdnews24.

Sagar, who studied in Kaluhati madrasa, went missing from home several times, said his family.
