The High Court (HC) on Tuesday granted ad-interim bail to Sohel Rana, the owner of Rana Plaza, for six months in a case filed in connection with the death of 1,135 garment workers after the building collapsed in April 2013.
The court also issued a rule asking the state to explain as to why Sohel Rana should not be granted a regular bail in this case.
The bench of Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan and Justice K M Hafizul Alam passed the order after holding a hearing on a bail petition filed by Sohel Rana.
Lawyer Shazzad Ali Chowdhury, who appeared in the hearing representing Sohel Rana, told the FE that there is no legal bar to his client's release from jail following the HC order as of now.
A total of seven cases were filed against Sohel Rana following the building collapse.
