A rice trader has been hacked to death inside his shop in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh. The killers left the victim inside the shop and closed the shutters before fleeing.

The murder took place around 11:00 pm on Monday at the Bogar Bazar intersection in the Upazila, said Trishal Police Station chief (OC) Muhammad Firoz Hossain.

The dead, 62-year-old Susen Chandra Sarkar, was the owner of “Bhai Bhai Enterprise” at the intersection and a resident of Southkanda village, reports bdnews24.com.

OC Firoz said unknown assailants hacked him with a sharp weapon, left him inside the shop, and closed the shutters. Susen’s family was searching for him, opened the shutters to the shop, and found him covered in blood.

He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The victim's son, Sujan Sarkar, said: "We have had a rice business for a long time. No one had any enmity with us. The criminals stole several hundred thousand taka from the store after they brutally killed my father."

He demanded that his father's killers be identified quickly and given exemplary punishment.

OC Firoz said police visited the scene once the incident was reported.

The body has been kept at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for postmortem examination, and legal action is underway, he added.
