A man, Delwar Hossain, was stabbed to death while attempting to thwart robbers in Dhaka's Uttara.
The 30-year-old victim resided in the Dakshin Khan area and worked as a security guard, reports bdnews24.com on its Facebook page.
His younger brother, 25-year-old Anwar Hossain, also suffered severe injuries in the incident that occurred on Tuesday night in front of BNS Centre in Uttara's Sector 7, according to Inspector Partha Pratim Brahmachari of Uttara West Police Station.
The brothers were taking their parents to their village home in Mymensingh on a pickup van when they were intercepted by robbers, according to their elder sister, Aliya Begum.
The assailants took money and mobile phones from Delwar and Anwar, while their parents were in the front seat of the pickup.
"Delwar and Anwar pursued the robbers. But they were armed with sharp weapons and attacked the brothers before fleeing the scene," she said.
Delwar's body has been sent to Suhrawardy Hospital's morgue, while Anwar was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
"We are investigating the details of the incident and have launched efforts to apprehend the culprits," said Inspector Partha Pratim
