Police say a girl found dead in a bamboo grove in Tangail’s Madhupur Upazila was raped and murdered.
The girl has been identified as Liza, the daughter of Abdul Majid of Arankhola Union’s Gachabari village. She was a fifth-grade student of Gachabari Govt Primary School.
Her body was recovered from the orchard around 11:00 pm on Friday, said Madhupur Police Inspector Md Nazrul Islam.
An initial investigation suggests she was strangled after she was raped, he said. Her body was taken to the hospital morgue for further examination.
Her father filed a case against several unknown suspects at Madhupur Police Station on Saturday, said Inspector Nazrul.
Two suspects were grilled after receiving a formal complaint, but their names could not be disclosed due to the ongoing investigation, he said.
According to a bdnews24 report, Arankhola Union Council Chairman Abdur Rahim said Liza had been missing since Friday afternoon after leaving the house.
Her body was eventually spotted covered with banana leaves in a bamboo grove near her house. Her clothes were torn, he said.
