A seven-year-old girl was violated allegedly by a young man in Sontoshpur area of Faridganj upazila of Chandpur district on Monday afternoon.
The detainee was Nurul Islam (32), son of late Chelamat Ullah, a resident of Khajuria area of Asta village.
Quoting locals Shah Alam, The Officer-in-Charge of Faridganj Police Station said Nurul took the girl in a room of a guard of local fish enclosure when the girl was passing it around 3:30 pm and violated her there, leaving her injured.
Hearing the girl's scream, locals rushed to the spot and caught Nurul.
Later, the accused was handed over to police, a news agency reported.
The injured girl was taken to Chandpur Government General Hospital.
