Md Shahin Alam, the sole accused in the murder and dismemberment of his roommate Md Obaidullah, gave a confessional statement on Friday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Zunayed recorded the statement under Section 164 after Shahin's five-day remand ended. Shahin had requested to make the confession voluntarily.

Police say Shahin, angered by repeated demands from Obaidullah, attacked him with a machete on February 27 following an argument. He then dismembered the body and disposed of the parts at different locations across Dhaka.

Authorities recovered a leg near Ananda Community Centre, hands in front of the National Stadium, another leg near Kamalapur Railway Station, the head in Matuail, and a torso portion under Salehpur Bridge. A machete, the victim's phone, and a bicycle used in transporting the body were also seized from a rented flat.

Obaidullah, 30, worked as a marketing officer at Gonoshasthya Homeo in Purana Paltan. Shahin was arrested on February 28 from his workplace after police traced him using CCTV and IT analysis.
