Unidentified assailants have entered the house and hacked to death a SSC examinee in Dhamrai Municipality area in Dhaka, police say.
The incident took place in Lakuriapara Mohalla on Thursday evening, said Dhamrai Police Station chief Nazmul Huda.
The victim, Nahida Akhter, 16, was appearing for the SSC examination from the commerce department at Dhamrai Central School, bdnews24.com reports.
Her mother, Liza Akhter, is an expatriate, and her father, Nur Hossain, lives in Barisal. Nahida used to live with her grandmother in Dhamrai.
Citing locals, police said Nahida’s grandmother went out to buy milk. When she returned home, she found Nahida lying on the floor in a pool of blood. The assailants entered the house and attacked her with sharp weapons. They also took away the gold jewellery she was wearing.
Nahida was quickly taken to the Noyar Hat Gonoshathya Samajbhittik Hospital where the doctor pronounced her dead.
Officer Nazmul said police inspected the scene around 8:00 pm when informed.
The motive of the murder, however, has yet to be confirmed.
He said the body has been sent to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem examination.
