A gunfight between police and robbers has left a ‘robber’ dead in Gazipur.
The dead, Rouf Haolader, 38, was named in 16 cases over robbery and other charges, said Md Joinal Abedin, assistant sub-inspector at Sreepur Police Station.
The shootout erupted around 3am Wednesday at Bhuiyar Bhita in Sreepur Upazila when a police patrol team raided a hideout of robbers.
“They were preparing for a robbery. Police retaliated as they opened fire. One got shot while the rest fled,” said ASI Abedin.
Haolader was declared dead after being rushed to hospital. His body was kept at the morgue, the ASI said, reports bdnews24. There were three bullet wounds in his chest.
A firearm and sharp weapons were seized from the scene.
A constable and an Ansar man are under treatment at the health complex. None of them were shot through, said Sreepur police SI Shahidul Islam.
