Detectives have arrested five people, including two suspended police constables, on the allegation of snatching Tk 2.0 million from a customer inside the branch of a bank in Dhaka's Paltan area.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning at the Paltan branch of privately-owned IFIC Bank. Subsequently, a case was filed on Thursday noon.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Paltan Model Thana told the FE that the money was recovered from the possession of the arrestees.
Police said one Azim Uddin, an employee of businessman Abdullah Al Mamun, came to deposit Tk 2.0 million at the bank branch.
Soon after he stood in the queue, two police constables in uniform came to the scene and forcefully took Mr Uddin out of the bank branch and took away the money.
On information, the detective branch officials came to the spot and after checking the footage of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, arrested two aides of the snatchers, namely Hridoy and Monju, from outside the bank branch.
Later, two constables, who were suspended earlier, Mahabub and Asif, were arrested and Tk 1.0 million was recovered from their possession.
Based on their information after interrogation, the detectives later arrested one Sohel and recovered the remaining Tk 1.0 million from his possession.
The accused will be produced before the court on Friday.
