Sylhet JCD leader dies in factional clash

A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatradal was killed and two activists injured in a factional clash in Kumarpara area of Sylhet city on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Foyjur Rahman Raju, 26, son of Fazar Ali of Shahpur village in Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar district and former vice-secretary for publicity of JCD city unit. He was a student of Sylhet Law College.

Leaders and activists of JCD started to gather in front of the residence of newly elected Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury at around 7:00 pm.

Two groups of the student wing of BNP were locked into a clash in front of the house, said sub-inspector Faruk Ahmed, in-charge of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Police Camp.

 The clash left three, including Raju, injured. Among them, Raju succumbed to his injuries at the hospital at around 11:00 pm, said the SI, UNB reported.

Meanwhile, the newly-elected mayor Ariful visited the hospital and expressed his condolence to Raju’s family.
