An alleged key figure in the teen gang crime scene, known as ‘Alex Iman’ (presumably an alias), was killed in a clash between two rival groups over territorial dominance in the capital’s Mohammadpur area on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 4:30 pm on the slope of the Beribadh road in the Rayerbazar Boddhijibi area under Mohammadpur Police Station, said Jewel Rana, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Tejgaon Division.
Police said Iman, described as the leader of the ‘Alex Group’ and an accused in multiple cases including murder, was critically injured during the clash. He was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment at the emergency department.
Following the incident, members of Rayerbazar Police Outpost conducted a drive and arrested three suspects from the spot.
The arrestees were identified as Saif, 23, Tuhin, 20, and Rabbi Kazi, 25,—members of Alex's rival group.
Law enforcers also recovered three machetes, one cutter, and one steel plate from their possession.
Assistant Commissioner (Mohammadpur Zone) of DMP Abdullah Al Mamun said Alex Iman was the listed leader of a teen gang operating in the Rayerbazar area and faced multiple criminal charges, including snatching and murder. “We are working on the matter,” he added.
According to local sources, a long-standing dispute over dominance existed between the Alex Iman group and the Arman–Shahrukh group. Today's clash reportedly broke out as a continuation of that conflict, during which Iman sustained fatal injuries from sharp weapons.
Iman’s body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
Local sources also claimed that several others, including Shahrukh, Arman, Khailla Badal, Kallu, Yasin, Chiku Shakil, Bhandari Iman, and Neket Shakil, were involved in the incident.
