A caretaker of a textile mill has been hacked to death on the Narsingdi-Madanganj road.

The incident is believed to have taken place on Monday night near Bridge No. 5 on the road, said Narsingdi Model Police chief ARM Al-Mamun. The victim, Mujibur Rahman, 55, hailed from the Birampur area of Madhabdi Thana. He was a caretaker at Dewan Textile Mill in Kalibari in the Madhabdi municipal area, reports bdnews24.com.

Citing relatives, police said that he often came to Narsingdi from Madhabdi for work. On Monday evening, he was returning to Madhabdi after finishing work in Narsingdi. It is believed that, on the way, criminals attacked him, snatched his mobile phone and gold ring, critically injured him, and dumped him onto the road.

Later, locals rushed him to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where a doctor declared him dead.

Police official Al-Mamun said a CNG autorickshaw driver brought Mujibur to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital around 10 pm. The driver dropped him off at the hospital and left. The circumstances of the incident will be uncovered once the autorickshaw driver is found, he said.

Al-Mamun also said that injury marks were found on the body of the deceased. Police are preparing an inquest report, and further legal action will be taken based on the complaint by the family.
