Three get life in jail in C’nawabganj for possessing arms

A Chapainawabganj court on Tuesday sentenced three people to life imprisonment in a case filed over the recovery of 22 firearms and 136 bullets in Chapainawanj municipality area in 2016.

The lifers are Shah Alam, son of late Ayen Uddin of Shyampur Gopalpur village and M Abdul Kalam, son of M Dulu of Telputi Lambapara village in Shibganj upazila, and Mohammad Osman Ali, son of late Nurul Haque of Sadharpara village in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram.

Of them, the latter was tried in absentia.

According to the prosecution, police recovered the firearms and ammunition during a drive at the house of Mohammad Shahin at Shankarbati in the municipality on October 24, 2016.

A case was filed against some unidentified people to this end, UNB reported.

Police pressed charges against four people on April 22, 2017 after investigation.

The court also acquitted an accused as the allegation brought against him could not be proved.
