Three supporters of Baul artiste Abul Sarkar have reportedly been injured in an attack by members of the “Tawhidi Janata” -- a loosely defined movement that portrays itself as a defender of Islamic morality.

Abdullah Al Mamun, the additional superintendent of Manikganj police, said that the incident occurred around 10:30 am on Sunday at the Manikganj Government Boys High School field, also known as the Bijoy Mela field.

The injured have been identified as Baul Alim, Ariful, and Zahirul. All three hail from different parts of Manikganj, reports bdnews24.com.

SP Abdullah said, “A Tawhidi Janata group attacked and injured three supporters of Baul artiste Abul Sarkar. They have been admitted to the Sadar Hospital.”

The incident comes after the Detective Branch (DB) of police detained Sarkar from a musical event in Manikganj’s Gior Upazila on Thursday over allegations of “insulting Islam and Allah”. A court then sent him to jail.

Sarkar is a resident of Saturia Upazila's Partilli area. He is known in the area as Baul artiste Choto Abul Sarkar.
