Relatives of a young man have alleged that he was called from his house in Paikpara area of Mirpur in the capital and thrown down from the seventh floor of an under-construction building.
The deceased was identified as Shahidul Hasan alias Jitu, 23, a day labourer. He lived with his family in a rented house in the adjacent staff quarters.
The incident took place on Isha Khan Road in Paikpara on Wednesday afternoon. Sahidul was found lying in a pool of blood under the lift of an under-construction building on the road. He died while undergoing treatment at the city's National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute (Pangu Hospital).
Shahidul's former acquaintance was accused of involvement in the murder, according to a local daily.
Police have arrested a youth named Sabbir (23). During primary interrogation, he confessed to killing Sahidul, police officials said.
Mirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajjad Roman told the daily on Thursday that Shahidul and Sabbir used to hangout together. Shahidul's father Shahin Mia is a drug addict. Sahidul had an altercation with Sabbir over admitting him to a drug rehabilitation centre. He had a dispute with Sahidul over this. Sabbir had several quarrels with Shahidul and his wife Rozina over the dispute. As a result, Sahidul was killed.
