A schoolgirl was stabbed by a young man at her house in the city's Motijheel AGB Colony area on Thursday.

The injured was Joya Mondal, 15, daughter of Anti-Corruption Commission Inspector Gopal Chandra Mondal and a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee from Motijheel Ideal School and College.

Omar Faruque, officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station, said the youth, Habib, 30, stormed the girl's residence at a four-storey building of the colony around 3:00 pm when she was alone at the house and stabbed her in the head.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed in, caught and assaulted Habib then handed him over to police.

Habib was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and now under police custody, UNB reported.

However, police said the reason behind the attack was unclear.
