Crude bomb explodes near High Court, seven more found in food boxes at Dhaka University
A crude bomb has exploded near the High Court while seven more undetonated devices have been discovered inside food boxes on the Dhaka University campus, police say.
According to Shahbagh police chief Khalid Mansur, two crude bombs, locally known as cocktails, were thrown in the vicinity of the High Court around 6am.
One of them exploded while the other did not. The police bomb disposal unit later recovered it, reports bdnews24.com.
Roughly an hour later, security personnel discovered two dubious food containers beneath a tree near the Annex Building of Dhaka University.
“Dogs were seen moving the boxes around, which raised suspicion,” Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed said.
Upon inspection, red tape-wrapped items resembling explosives were found inside the boxes.
Police were alerted and later confirmed that the containers held a total of seven crude bombs, embedded in flour. One box contained three devices, while the other held four, Saifuddin said.
The bomb disposal team safely removed and neutralised all the unexploded devices, police said.
Law-enforcing officers say investigations are underway to identify those responsible for both incidents.
