A police officer in Chattogram has been removed from duty after a video emerged on social media appearing to show him accepting a bribe.
The officer, Sub-Inspector Shahin Bhuiyan, had been working as a general recording officer in the Women and Children’s Section of the Chattogram court.
The viral clip shows him seated at his desk as a lawyer hands him three banknotes, which he accepts. The video was secretly filmed on a mobile phone, though it is unclear when it was recorded.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police said Shahin had been attached to the police lines while an investigation was carried out, bdnews24.com reports.
“The allegations will be investigated and action will be taken accordingly,” Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahmuda Begum said.
The incident follows the recent arrest of a wireless operator in Khulshi Police Station, accused of leaking a radio message from the CMP commissioner instructing officers not to go on duty without arms and ammunition. He was later charged under the Official Secrets Act and remanded for three days.
