Chattogram Urea Fertiliser Company Limited (CUFL) suspended its production on Friday due to a gas crisis.
Sources said the Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KDGCL) stopped gas supply to CUFL in the morning, forcing the CUFL to halt the fertiliser production.
CUFL Managing Director Mizanur Rahman said, "Fertiliser production at CUFL has been suspended from today (Friday) due to a gas crisis."
Earlier, the state-owned CUFL, a leading fertiliser producing industry in the country, suspended its production from January 3 to February 25 due to mechanical faults.
Later, the CUFL resumed fertiliser production on February 26.
According to CUFL sources, the plant could not operate more than three months in year due to a gas shortage.
The CUFL suffers a loss of Tk 500 million every month on average following its frequent shutdown due to the gas supply crunch.
According to CUFL sources, the organisation can make a profit of Tk 10 million daily if the production is continued regularly.
The CUFL produces 1650 tonnes to 1680 tonnes of fertiliser per day.
