Farmers are now busy preparing Boro seedbed after harvesting T-Aman crop in the district.

Seedbed on some 5,000 hectares of land would be prepared within a few days. Production target has been fixed at 0.7 million tonnes, the DAE added.

A 10 kg sack of Jerasail seed is being sold at Tk 580 to Tk 600, Brri Dhan-28, 29 is Tk 600 to Tk 620, high breed variety Tk 2500 to Tk 2700, Catari Bhog Tk 580 to Tk 600 in the retail market.

"I have bought ten kgs of Jerasail seed from the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) at Tk 600 to cultivate some five bighas of land," said farmer Saiful Islam of Gunaher village under Dupchanchia upazila.

A good number of farmers claimed some dishonest traders sell low quality paddy seeds across the district. The authority concerned should take effective step regarding this.

Sub-assistance agriculture officer Faridur Rahman said if the farmers grow quality seed, they will get expected production. "Growers should be careful to purchase seeds from open market", he added.
