Bangladesh fixed the damaged gas transmission pipeline after 62 hours of the accident and started flowing re-gasified LNG through this pipeline from Friday morning, managing director of state-run Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) Md Rafiqul Islam told the FE Friday.

“We have carried out the repair works round the clock despite weather odds to bring back the damaged Anowara-Fouzdarhat pipeline online,” he said.

The 30-km 42-inch Anowara-Fouzdarhat pipeline, which had suspended natural gas flow following an accident on July 9 afternoon, resumed regasified LNG supply at around 7:20 am Friday after repairing, he said.

The pipeline was carrying around 150 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of regasified LNG at around 10:30 am Friday totalling the country’s regasified LNG supply to around 400 mmcfd, Islam said.

Another 91 km 30-inch Moheshkhali-Anowara pipeline, which was operational after the accident, was carrying around 250 mmcfd Friday morning, he added.

The country’s overall regasified LNG supply is expected to reach the full capacity under currently available infrastructure to 600 mmcfd by today (Friday) evening, the RPGCL managing director hoped.

RPGCL, a wholly owned subsidiary of state-run petrobangla, looks after LNG trades in Bangladesh.
