DB arrests 8 people involving gold theft from Customs House

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police has arrested eight people in connection with the theft of 55kg of gold from the warehouse of the Customs House at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Four assistant revenue officers of customs and four sepoys in charge of the security of the warehouse have been arrested in connection with the incident, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) of DB-Uttara Division Badiuzzaman Zillu, reports UNB.

The arrestees were identified as Shahidul Islam, 36, Saidul Islam Shahed, 33, Akram Sheikh, 36, and Masum Rana, 33, Md Mozammel Haque, 35, Niamat Hawlader, 27, Md Rezaul Karim, 36, and Md Afzal Hossain, 29.

Besides, about 94 bhori of gold were recovered based on information provided by them.

Earlier, they were brought to the Detective Branch for questioning. Later, they were arrested after questioning, said ADC Zillu.
