The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and East West University (EWU) on Thursday signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) to promote entrepreneurship development and strengthen industry-academia collaboration.

The signing ceremony took place on the EWU campus in the capital, where DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed and EWU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shams Rahman signed the document on behalf of their respective organisations.

Prof Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson of EWU's Board of Trustees and former governor of Bangladesh Bank, attended the event as a distinguished guest.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will jointly offer three-month professional certificate courses on entrepreneurship and startup development, sustainable business strategy and ESG reporting, and project management.

Speaking on the occasion, DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed said the chamber has long championed industry-academia collaboration, given its critical role in creating a skilled workforce and advancing economic transformation.

The partnership with EWU would help shape future professionals, strengthen the private sector, and support the country's path toward sustainable industrialisation and growth, he added.

Prof Dr Shams Rahman said the MoC would help the two institutions jointly implement courses to foster entrepreneurship and startups.

"EWU always seeks to work in tandem with the private sector to build a workforce capable of meeting emerging challenges," he added.

EWU Pro-VC Prof Dr Ashik Mosaddik, Dean Prof Dr Ahmed Wasif Reza, DCCI Vice President Md Salem Sulaiman, and directors Mamnun Quader, Kamrul Hasan Tuhin, and Minhaj Ahmed were also present.
