The Chief Advisor’s Office (CAO) has dismissed media reports claiming deputy commissioners advised action on political speeches at Waz-Mahfils during a meeting in Dhaka.

On Tuesday, CA Press Wing Facts posted on Facebook that two deputy commissioners and one divisional commissioner spoke at Monday’s meeting, but there was no discussion connected to political remarks at religious gatherings, bdnews24.com reports.

The post noted that Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus’s directional speech to the administrators made no mention of the issue.

His full speech has already been published on official social media pages, where there is no reference to Waz-Mahfils or political remarks, it added.

Several media outlets reported on Tuesday that a views exchange meeting took place between Yunus and all 64 DCs along with eight divisional commissioners.

According to those reports, district administrators suggested “adding clear instructions” to the election code of conduct to stop political speeches at Waz-Mahfils.

A report citing two DCs without naming them said political tension had increased around recent Waz-Mahfils, with political parties allegedly using them as platforms for publicity.

They suggested that the election code should include a clear provision banning political remarks at such events, it added.

The CAO described the related media reports as “entirely false”.
