Deep depression heads towards coast of Tamil Nadu, rain expected in Bangladesh
The deep depression that formed in the Bay of Bengal will hit the coast of India’s Tamil Nadu on Saturday morning, according to a forecast by the Bangladesh Meteorological Correspondent.
This will result in some rain in Bangladesh’s coastal areas, reports bdnews24.com.
In a special bulletin, the BMD said that at 6pm, the deep depression was located 1,655 km southwest of the maritime port at Chattogram, 1,600 km southwest of the maritime port at Cox’s Bazar, 1,540 km southwest of Mongla port, and 1,535 km southwest of Payra port.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 48 km of the deep depression’s centre is about 50 kph rising to 60 kph in gusts and squalls. The sea will remain rough near the deep depression’s centre.
It may hit the Indian coast on Saturday morning.
The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal No. 1.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the north bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
A low pressure system developed in the Bay of Bengal on Nov 23 before intensifying into a well-marked low, then a depression on Tuesday.
Though there were concerns that the deep depression may intensify into a cyclone, it will instead ease into a low once again, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
According to the regular weather bulletin from the BMD, one or two parts of the Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may see some light rain in the 24 hours from 9am on Friday.
There may be some temporarily cloudy skies in other parts of the country, but the weather will remain largely dry.
The lowest temperature recorded across the country over the 24-hour period was 11.3 degrees Celsius in Panchagarh’s Tetulia.
Night temperatures are expected to rise slightly across the country while day temperatures may drop a bit, the weather bulletin says.
