Dengue: 2 die, 394 newly hospitalised in 24 hours

Two more people have died of dengue in the past 24 hours, while 394 new patients have been hospitalised across the country, bringing the year’s death toll from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease to 78.

A total of 19,923 people have been admitted to hospitals with dengue since January.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, one patient died in Barishal and another in Chattogram in the 24 hours leading up to Monday.

Dengue deaths in July now stand at 36, the highest monthly figure this year.

June recorded the second highest with 19 fatalities.

In addition, 10 people died in January, three in February, seven in April, and three in May.

The number of hospital admissions due to dengue this year reached its peak in July, with 9,627 people. The second-highest number was in June, with 5,951 individuals.

In addition, 1,161 patients were admitted to the hospital in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 in May.

The highest number of new patients admitted in the past 24 hours was in the Barishal Division, with 108.

A total of 82 patients were admitted in the two city corporations of Dhaka, 48 in the rest of the Dhaka Division, five in Mymensingh, 76 in Chattogram, 34 in Khulna, 31 in Rajshahi, and 10 in Rangpur.

Currently, 1,258 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country with dengue, 348 in Dhaka, and 910 outside the capital.
