Dengue claims seven lives, highest in a single-day

Bangladesh reported seven deaths from dengue in 24 hours till Tuesday morning, the record toll in a single day this year as the disease spread to 61 districts.

As many as 1054 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country as the dengue outbreak has taken an alarming turn.

Signalling a worrisome situation, the highest number of hospitalisation due to dengue was recorded in 24 hours on the day. In the latest daily update, the total death toll from dengue hit 83 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the hospitalised patients, 628 were admitted to several hospitals in Dhaka.

A total of 14,897 dengue patients received treatment in various public and private hospitals in the country so far since January, DGHS said. Among them, 10,292 were admitted to the hospitals in Dhaka, it added.

Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Tuesday continued its month-long anti-dengue drive and campaign. Its mobile courts conducted several drives and fined several houses and entities Tk 1.25 million.

They found Aedes larvae on the premises of different residences in the capital.
