The dengue death toll in Bangladesh has reached 551, as two more fatalities were reported from the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 311 new patients have been hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease across the country in the same period, taking the total hospitalisation count to 99,295 so far this year, reports bdnews24.com.
The Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said as many as 121 were admitted to hospital in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Tuesday morning.
In addition, 49 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, ten in the Mymensingh Division, 40 in the Chattogram Division, 32 in the Khulna Division, seven in the Rajshahi, 51 in the Barishal Division, and one in Sylhet Division.
The number of patients hospitalised with the disease this year has risen to 99,295.
As many as 1,533 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country. Of them, 602 are hospitalised in the capital and 931 are outside Dhaka.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and fatalities since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. That year also saw the most deaths with 1,705.
