Dengue deaths top 100, hospital admissions cross 24,000 in 2025

The death count from dengue has crossed 100 in 2025 after three more people succumbed to the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, hospital admissions have also surpassed 24,000 this year as 448 fresh cases were reported.

The overall caseload stands at 24,183, while the total number of fatalities has reached 101, reports bdnews24.com.

The figures are based on data collected by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). However, many dengue patients do not require hospital admission, so the exact number of infections nationwide cannot be ascertained.

Of the dengue-related fatalities recorded until Sunday morning, two were reported at hospitals in Dhaka South City Corporation, and one in the Chattogram Division.

Authorities did not provide details about which age groups the latest fatalities belonged to and whether they had any comorbidities.

As many as 18 people have died from dengue so far in August.

July saw 41 deaths, the highest monthly tally this year.

The second highest was in June, with 19 deaths.

In addition, 10 people died in January, three in February, seven in April, and three in May.

As of Aug 10, a total of 3,203 patients have been hospitalised with dengue this month.

The number of hospitalisations this year reached its peak in July, with 10,684 patients. The second-highest number was in June, with 5,951 individuals.

Moreover, 1,161 patients were admitted to the hospital in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 in May.

The highest number of new patients admitted in the past 24 hours was in the Barishal Division, with 95 patients.

A total of 80 patients were hospitalised in the two city corporations of Dhaka, 84 in the rest of the Dhaka Division, eight in Mymensingh, 81 in Chattogram, 57 in Khulna, and 34 in Rajshahi, seven in Rangpur, and two in Sylhet.

Currently, 1,374 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country with dengue -- 389 in Dhaka, and 985 outside the capital.
