The dengue situation is now under control in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) areas, Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said on Wednesday.
"We're giving serious importance to control dengue and it is going on. So dengue is now under control in DSCC areas," he said, adding that the ongoing drive against dengue would continue throughout the year.
He was talking to the media after witnessing the activities of recovering the original Buriganga river channel in the capital, saying that the DSCC has a plan to make the original Buriganga channel more attractive than Hatirjheel.
He pointed out that it took 10 years to complete the Hatirjheel development project and said the Buriganga channel project is expected to complete within three years despite difficulties in implementing the project.
Initially, an amount of Tk 250 million has been allocated for recovering the channel, he said. Of the amount, Tk 230 million would be spent on excavation of the river.
The DSCC has also a fund of Tk 350 million for several other development works related to the Buriganga, Mr Taposh said.
