DGHS reports 44 more fatalities, 3201 fresh cases

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 2101 new cases on Monday, taking the number of such cases in the country to 165,618.

The state-run Directorate General of Health Services registered 44 more death from the deadly virus today, taking the country’s total death to 2096.

Among the diseased, 33 were men and 11 women, while one was between 21-30, two were between 31-40, six between 41-50, thirty-one between 51-60, fifteen between 61-70, six between 71-80, one were between 81-90 years old, Additional Director General of the DGHS Dr. Nasima Sultana said.

Of the fatalities, seventeen from Dhaka division, eleven from Chattogram, three from Rajshahi, two from Khulna, four from Barisal, three from Sylhet, two from Rangpur, and two from Mymensingh division.

Thirty-five people died in hospital, and nine in their homes, the DGHS senior official added.

Simultaneously, 3,524 people recovered from the respiratory disease, bringing the overall number of recovery to 76,149, Dr. Nasima said.

A total of 14,245 samples were tested in 68 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 860,307 samples have so far been tested in the country.

On Sunday, 55 people died and 2,738 people tested positive for the highly infectious disease.

According to the DGHS, 63,801 people now remain in both home and institutional quarantine while 16,794 others in isolation.

Bangladesh reported its first case of Covid-19 on March 08 and the first death 10 days later. The country witnessed the highest single-day fatalities of 64 on June 30.

Globally, 11,577,979 people were infected with the novel coronavirus and 537,103 have died until Thursday 3:00 pm, according to Worldometer data.

Of the infected, 4,494,030 are currently being treated while 58,655 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.
