A father has died in Dhaka after suffering burn injuries in a fire believed to have been caused by an explosion from accumulated gas in the kitchen of a Mirpur residence.
Seven members of two families have been injured in the incident.
The accident occurred at a home in C-Block of Mirpur Section-11 around 5:30am on Sunday.
“Khalil, who had burns on 95 percent of his body, died on Monday while undergoing treatment. He was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit,” Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the Emergency Unit of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, told bdnews24.com.
Shahjahan, who is another victim in the incident, has been discharged from the hospital. Six percent of his body is burnt, according to Dr Shaon.
Khalil’s two sons, Abdullah and Mohammed, are also in critical condition, he added.
Abdullah has burns on 38 percent of his body, while Mohammad’s burns cover 35 percent. They are not in good conditions. All those who are hospitalised are in critical condition but conditions of these two have worsened, said Dr Shaon.
The critically injured victims in the incident were taken to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Among the injured, Khalil’s wife, Ruma, 32, sustained burns on 20 percent of her body while Ismail, Khalil’s another child had burns on 20 percent of his body.
All the victims have been identified with single names.
Perhaps there was a leakage at the gas pipeline in the kitchen. The explosion may have occurred from accumulated gas when someone attempted to light the stove in the morning, Dr Shaon said, citing the victims’ family members.
