A real estate office in Dhaka’s Pallabi area was attacked on Friday, allegedly for refusing to pay Tk 50 million in extortion. One staff member was shot and is hospitalised, according to local media.
Police say a group of 30 to 40 armed men stormed the AK Builders office around 5pm and fired four shots. The company’s chairman had earlier filed a complaint with police over threats and previous attacks.
No arrests have been made and no case has been filed yet, but police say they are investigating.
The attack came two days after a scrap trader, Lal Chand, was beaten to death in Old Dhaka. His family says he was killed for refusing to pay Tk 200 thousand in monthly extortion.
Police say Chand was previously associated with BNP’s Jubo Dal.
