A Biman Bangladesh flight from Dhaka to Syedpur has made an emergency landing at the Hazrat Shahjalal Airport, 40 minutes after taking off from the same airport.

The plane returned to the Dhaka airport after a technical glitch was detected mid-flight.

The airplane left Dhaka for Syedpur around 12 pm on Tuesday, Biman Bangladesh Airlines Junior Ground Officer Zahid Mia told bdnews24 news agency.

“But it had to return due to technical problems. We expect the flight to leave at 3 pm or 3:30 pm.”

Biman officials have not confirmed what specific technical issue affected the Dash 8-Q400 aircraft, which can carry 73 passengers, reports bdnews24.

The US-Bangla Airlines flight that crashed in Kathmandu on Mar 12 was also a Dash8-Q400 plane, manufactured by Canada-based Bombardier Inc.

The crash at the Tribhuvan International Airport is the worst aviation disaster in Bangladesh’s history killing 49 of the 71 people on board, including 26 Bangladeshis.
