Rail services on the Dhaka–Sylhet and Dhaka–Chattogram routes have resumed after an almost eight-hour disruption due to the derailment of a train at Bhairab Bazar Railway Junction in Kishoreganj.

Bhairab Railway Station Master Md Yusuf said train operations on the route restarted around 11:00 am on Tuesday.

Train services on the two key routes came to a complete halt after a coach of the Dhaka Mail-2 (down) train derailed around 3:00 am on Tuesday, reports bdnews24.com.

According to Station Master Yusuf, the train had departed Dhaka for Chattogram around 11:45 pm on Monday and made a scheduled stop at the Bhairab Station around 2:45 am on Tuesday.

At 2:55 am, the train received the signal to depart the station. After moving about 150 metres, four wheels of one coach derailed, bringing train movement on the Dhaka–Sylhet–Chattogram route to a complete standstill.

Since the derailment blocked both the up and down lines, several trains were stranded at different stations along the route, causing severe suffering for passengers, Yusuf said.

“After receiving news of the accident, a relief train from Akhaura reached the site around 7:00 am and began rescue operations. After four hours of efforts, the derailed coach was rescued around 11:00 am, restoring rail communication.”
