Train services in Dhaka have resumed after a six-hour disruption caused by students of Government Titumir College, who had blocked the railway track in Mohakhali.
The students had been protesting for the college to be upgraded to an independent university.
Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Md Shahadat Hossain said that at 9:50 pm on Monday, “We started running trains after students withdrew the blockade at night.
“The first train to depart is the Upakul Express, which was stuck at Tejgaon Railway Station. From Kamalapur, the first departure will be the Rajshahi-bound Silk City Express.
“We have given the signal, and it may take around 10 minutes for the train to leave.”
The blockade, which began in the afternoon, halted services across Bangladesh, affecting communication through Tongi Junction, according to a bdnews24.com report.
Multiple trains were stranded at Kamalapur and other stations, causing distress for commuters.
Many travellers had arrived at Kamalapur hours before their scheduled departure, only to find trains held up due to the protest.
Frustrated passengers confined Station Manager Shahadat at Kamalapur Railway Station after their trains failed to depart.
“They are pressuring me to get the trains moving,” he told bdnews24.com at that time.
