The Dhaka University unit of the Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir – the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami – has held a prayer service at the graves of the Language Movement martyrs on National Martyrs Day and International Mother Language Day.
On Friday morning, the Chhatra Shibir held a prayer service and a short discussion at the central mosque of Dhaka University to mark the occasion.
Dhaka University Shibir President SM Farhad, Secretary General Mohiuddin Khan, Organising Secretary Kazi Ashiqur Rahman and other leaders were in attendance.
Farhad spoke at the discussion before the prayers.
After the discussion, the imam of Dhaka University’s Central Jamme Mosque led the prayer service. After the prayers, the students, led by Farhad, visited the graves of the language martyrs.
Shibir Secretary Mohiuddin said, “Prayer is the best gift for the dead. Therefore, we are remembering the language martyrs on Feb 21 through prayers. Visiting the graves of the martyrs is also a cultural tradition in our region.”
