Diamond World MD Dilip remanded in murder case

A court in Dhaka on Wednesday placed Diamond World Limited managing director Dilip Kumar Agarwal on remand in a case over killing BNP activist Ridoy Ahmed during a recent student-mass movement.

Court sources said Dilip was placed on a three-day remand in the case lodged over the murder of Ridoy took place in front of BRAC University in the capital’s Badda area on July 19.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order as police pleaded for a seven-day remand for Dilip, who was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion Tuesday night from the Gulshan area.

Ridoy was killed as police started firing indiscriminately on agitating students and people in the Badda area on July 19.

Shahadat Hossain, joint secretary of BNP’s Shibchar upazila unit of Madaripur district filed the case on August 22 against 161 persons including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehena and Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
