Former members of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), who were dismissed following the 2009 mutiny, started an indefinite sit-in at the Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday morning, pressing for a six-point demand, including reinstatement.
The protesters, including dismissed BDR personnel and their families, began their demonstrations under the banner of the ‘BDR Welfare Council’ at 9:00 am. As of 4:20 pm, the protest was still ongoing, according to reports from our photographer.
They threatened to continue the movement until their demands were met.
Among their key demands is ensuring that the commission formed to investigate the Pilkhana massacre operates independently and impartially.
The demonstrators also called for including BDR personnel who were present at Pilkhana during the mutiny and fell victim to the conspiracy in the commission’s investigation.
Besides, they demanded justice for the 74 BDR and army personnel who were killed during the massacre on February 25-26, 2009.
